Baseball is rapidly approaching. Pitchers and catchers report on February 14. And the first spring training game is on March 1.

If you are looking for an early baseball fix, the always popular Mariners Fanfest is this weekend at Safeco Field. For people who have never been to the event, it’s an excellent chance for kids to see the field up close, see the players and just get the entire baseball experience.

Like in past years, kids will be able to run around the bases. They will be able to catch pop flies and and even try and hit one over the fence at Safeco – From the centerfield grass and see how fast they can throw. There is also the customary tours of the clubhouse, the roof control tours and hang out in the dugout and several other interactive things. There are some new attractions this year, including a tribute to Dave Niehaus, a chance to see and try on actual game equipment from Mariners players. And there is also a “Fan vs. Felix Batting Cage” where fans can try and hit a fastball from virtual Felix.

Also several players, former players and prospects will be on hand to sign autographs and meet fans.
