I’m sure the title roped in you in, and now you wonder:  what deal could that be? Could it be the Mariners have traded David Aardsma? Have they signed a free agent catcher or second baseman?

Well, we don’t quite have answers to that.

Zduriencik said he’d been in meetings all morning with teams and players’ agents as well.

When asked if something was imminent, he said:

“I’d say it’s possible,” he said. “You never know what could happen, but I think there’s a couple really good dialogues going.”

Free agents or trades?

“Possibly both,” he said.

Now that sounds promising.

“That’s not a promise that something is going to happen,” he said. “But these talks have gone on for a while and I think they’ve gotten the point where something could happen.”

Obviously, we’ll keep you posted on that front.

I know a lot of you are wondering why they haven’t done much. And it’s been oft-discussed why. But he’s not going to simply make a move at the Winter Meetings because he feels the need to.

“To do a deal to just to do a deal, no, I don’t think we are going to do that,” Zduriencik said. “(winter meetings) creates an opportunity because there are so many people here motivated to so something,” Zduriencik said. “There could be a move made next week. There could be move made in spring training. There could be a move made before spring training. But I don’t think anyone is sitting in this room thinking we have to do something today. No, you do something because it’s the right move to make. ”

Zduriencik confirmed that every team that calls inquires first and foremost about Dustin Ackley and Michael Pineda.

“All the time,” he said. “Every time to talk about a high profile major league, they will always come back to Pineda and Ackley.”

After that, Nick Franklin’ s name is often mentioned followed by a few young players on the Mariners 25-man roster.

So the odds of Ackley and Pineda being traded?

The Mariners would have to be absolutely wowed to give either of them up.

A baseball rumors site is saying that the M’s have floated some interest in Zack Greinke? KC wants young pitching, SS, OF. Well, how about Pineda, Greg Halman (listed by Baseball America our best athlete and huge power potential), Carlos Triunfel or Gabriel Noriega at SS, and Josh Fields, tops RP prospect and former first round draft pick for Grienke???
