A wee bit of baseball news …

Poor John McGrath. Clearly, his pick of San Francisco in seven games Wednesday was way off – the Giants might win the World Series in three. As for the guys who picked Texas, Ryan Divish and I ….. yikes!

As for news around baseball, Ken Rosenthal at Foxsports.com reported the Seattle Mariners have interviewed former Phillies hitting coach Milt Thompson to fill the same role on Eric Wedge’s new coaching staff.

And here’s a note of interest: since the announcement of  his hiring 11 days ago, Mr. Wedge hasn’t left the Northwest. Rather than go home, he’s stayed on to conduct coaching interviews and talk to general manager Jack Zduriencik about the team. That is commitment.

Former Mariners third baseman Jim Presley, who was Buck Showalter’s hitting coach with the Arizona Diamondbacks, was hired today by the Baltimore Orioles and will serve as … Showalter’s batting coach. Can signing Don Wakamatsu – Showalter’s bench coach in Texas – be far behind?

And then there’s the sad but not stunning news that former Mariner Jose Guillen, a San Francisco outfielder left off the post-season roster, is being investigated for use of HGH. Yikes! again.

“the Giants might win the World Series in three”

That can only happen if the Rangers forfeit the fourth and deciding game. Probably not going to happen.

  2. Shocked, SHOCKED to hear that there are still drugs in baseball. I thought the new testing protocols had eliminated that behahior once and for all.

Victor Conte was a narcissistic doofus who was able to create a steroid that was undetectable. Had he not been turned in by a jealous competitor, Barry, Marion, et all would still be crankin’. Just think what somebody who only wanted to make money and not let their ego get in the way could do.

These guys are still doping and if your kid wants to play in the bigs, they will have to decide whether or not to pay the price.

It’s very hard to tell sarcasm in a written word so I don’t know if your first paragraph was sarcasm or not. Two games of a seven game contest is far from meriting a “Yikes” though. Texas is a tough team and I think they may be able to come back. We’ll see. I’d just like to see good close games and have it go seven. Doesn’t really matter to me who wins though I’d like to see Washington and Hamilton get rings.
