No news on Wedge yet, but it’s coming

The Seattle Mariners say there is no planned press conference today, and of course no one with the team has confirmed that Eric Wedge is the new manager.

That hasn’t stopped the stories – or the blogging.

MLB.com’s Jim Street writes this morning that the Mariners have been given permission to make their announcement, which could come today, followed by a formal press conference at Safeco Field tomorrow. Read a little further in Street’s blog and there are some intriguing quotes from hitting coach Alonzo Powell, who admits he’d never seen anything like what happened with the 2010 Seattle offense.
