The Seattle Mariners can catch the Cleveland Indians in the race to avoid the second-worst record in the American League tonight, and if that’s not September excitement, what is?
The Indians (53-80) have been every bit as disappointing as the Mariners (52-81).
Hard-luck starter Doug Fister tries again for his fifth win – and second since April – and the Mariners lineup features the usual suspsects until the bottom. There, Ryan Langerhans is in left field and Chris Woodward at shortstop. Neither is hitting .200.
Here it is:
- Ichiro Suzuki, RF
- Chone Figgins, 2B
- Franklin Gutierrez, CF
- Russell Branyan, DH
- Jose Lopez, 3B
- Casey Kotchman, 1B
- Adam Moore, C
- Ryan Langerhans, LF
- Chris Woodward, SS
- Doug Fister, P
Why to avoid 2nd worst record? I hope we were in the dead last position so we can get the #1 draft next year!

Seattle might just do that moo. The Orioles have been playing decent ball since Buck Showalter took over last month. They dropped their last 2 to Boston but looked good doing it.

P4P, that wasn’t me above! Though on the topic, I don’t think we’re bad enough to catch Pittsburgh. More M’s mediocrity.
