Michael Saunders gets back in the lineup after sitting four games to let Matt Tuiasosopo swing a hot bat, and Jose Lopez – 7-for-32  with one RBI on this trip – remains the Seattle Mariners cleanup hitter.

The theory may be that putting a young hitter like Saunders or Adam Moore or even Franklin Gutierrez might get them trying to hit like a classic No. 4 hitter. Lopez? No matter where he hits, his approach seems to be the same.

Jason Vargas, meanwhile, tries to become the Mariners first 10-game winner. Here’s the lineup vs. right-hander Javier Vazquez:

  • Ichiro Suzuki, RF
  • Chone Figgins, 2B
  • Russell Branyan, DH
  • Jose Lopez, 3B
  • Franklin Gutierrez, CF
  • Casey Kotchman, 1B
  • Josh Bard, C
  • Michael Saunders, LF
  • Josh Wilson, SS
  • Jason Vargas, P
