Unable to pull off a trade deadline deal, the Seattle Mariners made a four-player trade with themselves today – recalling Matt Tuiasosopo and Sean White from  Tacoma, sending Justin Smoak to the Rainiers and placing Milton Bradley on the disabled list.

The move gives the Mariners a seven-man bullpen with the addition of White, and brings utilityman Tuiasosopo back to the Mariners.

Bradley, who hasn’t played since July 26, was placed on he DL with an inflamed knee. Smoak, the 21-year-old first baseman acquired in the Cliff Lee trade, has batted .159 in 16 games with Seattle, going 1-for-12 on the current trip.

That’s brought his season average to .198 with 10 home runs and 39 RBI in 298 at-bats in 2010.

I’m thinking with White coming up then maybe a trade is in the work’s for one of our pitcher’s. Tui coming up mean’s that a trade for Lopez could be in the work’s as well. This could just be for the better of the team rather than for a trade. We’ll see…

  2. Lopez needs to go one way or another. Move Figgins back to 3rd & Josh to 2nd & see what we’ve got.

I’d really like to see us WIN in 2011, these auditions need to start NOW. Keeping Bradley on the DL until September call ups would be brilliant. Lopez & a couple more can join him.

  3. Baker at the Times is claiming that Atlanta asked about Figgins & was told he was not available.

IF IF IF IF IF that is true, I’m off the Jack Z bandwagon for good.

Why would you trade a historically good player who is under contract for a reasonable amount of money when his perceived value is at its lowest point? It’s a good move on Z’s part to say no.

  5. Baker seemed to imply that they never got to the point of even making an offer.
