Bedard will undergo more medical tests

Erik Bedard’s return to pitching for the Seattle Mariners took an all-too-familiar detour for the left-hander – he’ll return to Seattle with the team Sunday night, then undergo a battery of medical tests next week.

After feeling pain in his surgically repaired left shoulder while playing catch Thursday, Bedard was examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum, the orthopedic surgeon who operated on him last August.

Yocum recommended Bedard see Mariners team Dr. E. Khalayan about having both an MRI and a CAT-scan done on his left shoulder.

That rules out Bedard pitching for the team in July and puts the rest of the season in doubt if he needs more physical therapy or, worst-case scenario, another operation.

If plans are for him not come back this year than Mariners should just cut him and give him injury settlement as I just think and this just my opinion that Erik Bedard should be look at new career especiality since he calls his own shot when he want to come out and since he pretty much useless to Mariners as bullpen is already overwork, no need to have guy like Bedard who only can throw 100 pitchs why other starters around him in rotation go more than that just show you what type player he is and that is selfish.

wow that was one very long sentence bigmike.

But I agree w/ you wholeheartedly. Like I said on the other thread, the Mariners would be well advised to cut their losses on this guy and move on. He’s just not worth it anymore. Too selfish. Too lazy.

Speaking of going in and checking things, when they go to look at Bedard, check for a spine. This guy is a sissy and will look for any reason to stay out of the lineup. We don’t need another guy who is going to tax the already wacked out bullpen.

Last year, Every one of Jack Z’s gambles seemed to pay off. But this year, it looks like he’s losing every throw – so the Bedard news isn’t all that surprising, it’s almost expected.

And frankly, there’s no reason for the guy to push it. The Mariners aren’t going anywhere this year, so there’s absolutely no reason for Bedard to take even the slightest chance with his recovery.

  5. The biggest thing that sucks here is the $’s were paid Bedard, Cordero & The Rangers in the Lee trade would have bought the bats we needed.

Howard, if you want attendance to go back up, payroll needs to go back to pre 2010 levels also.

  6. SharkHawk says:

If Howard wants attendance to go up, then he should go away. I know it isn’t his fault that the team sucks this year, but everything that guy touches turns to crap. It’s time for somebody with a little more substance to be involved. Howard the Duck ain’t it.

I am glad he’s stepped back and let Jack run the team, but the overwhelming sense of Mariner’s Business still has its stink all over the franchise, from the way they market themselves right on down the line.

Ah, I see that the comment I made to the other post fits here as well so I will quote myself:

As long as it is done without vulgarity and other forms of disrespect, I don’t have a problem with people pointing out that Erik has a propensity to injury, just like many other players do. What I don’t take well nor tolerate are assessments such as those that question his work ethic and desire to play. Someone who didn’t care wouldn’t be putting in the enormous amount of effort and time, enduring a considerable amount of physical and psychological pain trying to return from labrum repair, especially when the odds of doing so are 50-50 at best. As if that weren’t sufficient, let’s consider that among his other injuries, he has endured and come back from two other surgeries– one them reconstructive (TJ) that just as this one required a lengthy and painful recovery and rehab. After all he’s endured and bounced back from, to still question his desire is simply ignorant. And stupid.

I’m sorry you have to share a fandom with so many uneducated ones, westside_guy.

I was hoping this would be normal soreness associated with the recovery, same as that in mid-May. It still might be, but it sounds like the pain is more severe this time. I’m hoping it is not the case, but if surgery is necessary hopefully it will be to remove scar tissue and not because an anchor has slipped.
