Sorry that the minor league report has been on hiatus. I was told I had to burn some vacation time and well, if I’m on vacation, then I’m doing the report.

But it will be back with some regularity from now on.

The Rainiers are in first place … though I don’t know how since the Mariners have plundered their pitching staff. They won again last night as Matt Mangini and Guillermo Quiroz went deep.

Here’s Mike Curto’s minor league notebook, focusing on Dustin Ackley.

Double A West Tenn was swept by Chattanooga and eliminated for the first-half race in the Southern League.

Also in Class A a few players made the All-Star games in their respective leagues.

High Desert Mavericks – California League

California League-Carolina League All-Star Game is on June 22 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

  • 1B Rich Poythress
  • RHP Kenn Kasparek

Clinton LumberKings – Midwest League

Tuesday, June 22 at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, IN

  • DH Vinnie Catricala – Starter
  • SS Nick Franklin – Reserve
  • LHP Brian Moran
  • RHP Erasmo Ramirez

AAA Tacoma Rainiers (PCL)

Tacoma 7, at Portland 4

  • Tacoma 7 runs, 15 hits, 0 errors
  • Portland 4 runs, 7 hits, 0 errors
  • BOX SCORE

Pitching Lines:

  • LH Luke French (W, 7-2) 6.2,7,4,4,1,3,HR,WP
  • RH Levale Speigner (S, 6) 2.1,0,0,0,1,1

With the Bats:

  • 3B Matt Mangini 2×4, 2 R, HR, RBI

  • RF Mike Wilson 1×4, R, HR, 2 RBI

Of Note: Luke French allowed 4 runs in 6.2 innings to lead the Rainiers to a 7-4 victory over the Beavers on Saturday night. French got plenty of offensive support as Mike Wilson, Guillermo Quiroz and Matt Mangini each had home runs. Wilson’s was a 2-run blast and the other 2 were solo shots. Brad Nelson had recorded a hit 10 of his last 11 games, batting .370 (17×46) with 11 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 home runs and 9 RBI. Matt Mangini has hit safely in 6 of the last 7 games with 4 multi-hit contests. He is batting .435 (10×23) with 8 runs scored, 1 home run and 1 RBI. Mike Wilson currently has a 7-game hit streak, batting .360 (9×25) with 7 runs scored, 4 home runs and 8 RBI. The hit streak is Wilson’s longest since joining the Rainiers on May 12 and is 1 game short of the season-high 8-game streak (.448/13×29) he put together with West Tennessee, April 22-29.
