Doug Fister will miss his scheduled start Saturday with a weary shoulder, replaced in the Seattle Mariners rotation by Ryan Rowland-Smith.
“It’s really just shoulder fatigue and we felt it would be best have him miss one start in the rotation and he’ll be ready to throw that last game in Texas next week,” manager Don Wakamatsu said.
“A young pitcher going as deep into ballgames as he has, at some point he’s going to get dead arm or some fatigue. It’s nothing serious.”
Fister has gone 3-3 with a 2.45 earned run average over 10 starts. Rowland-Smith made eight starts before going to the bullpen two weeks ago, and is 0-4 with a 4.58 ERA.
“I’m just going to try to enjoy the whole thing and not think about the fourth inning in the first inning,” Rowland-Smith said.
