Busy camp this morning, and after sending Luke French down early, the Mariners told reliever Chad Cordero he was headed to the minors just to get innings.
“They want me to work regularly, get innings and stay heallthy,” Cordero said. “I expected it. I’m fine with it. My arm feels great.”
Meanwhile, opening day starting pitcher Felix Hernandez faced a minor league lineup in a 9:45 a.m. game and gave up one run – a home run to the first batter he faced.
“I’ll have a little more adrenaline Monday,” he said. “I’m ready for the regular season. Spring is finally over. I was in shape the first day.”
The Mariners also put two players on the 15-day disabled list – Erik Bedard and Jack Hannahan, back-dated to March 26. The moves leave the team with 33 players in camp, 27 of them on the 40-man roster.
One of those 27 players is Ryan Garko.
The six non-roster players still with the team: pitcher Jesus Colome, cather Josh Bard, infielders Josh Wilson and Chris Woodward, outfielder Corey Patterson and DH Mike Sweeney.
