Busy camp this morning, and after sending Luke French down early, the Mariners told reliever Chad Cordero he was headed to the minors just to get innings.

Chad Cordero

“They want me to work regularly, get innings and stay heallthy,” Cordero said. “I expected it. I’m fine with it. My arm feels great.”

Meanwhile, opening day starting pitcher Felix Hernandez faced a minor league lineup in a 9:45 a.m. game and gave up one run – a home run to the first batter he faced.

“I’ll have a little more adrenaline Monday,” he said. “I’m ready for the regular season. Spring is finally over. I was in shape the first day.”

The Mariners also put two players on the 15-day disabled list – Erik Bedard and Jack Hannahan, back-dated to March 26. The moves leave the team with 33 players in camp, 27 of them on the 40-man roster.

One of those 27 players is Ryan Garko.

The six non-roster players still with the team: pitcher Jesus Colome, cather Josh Bard, infielders Josh Wilson and Chris Woodward, outfielder Corey Patterson and DH Mike Sweeney.

    Hold the phones
Larry is their word going around that nobody going to claim Garko on waivers and that he will be going to Tacoma??????

Thought how long with Chad Cordero be in the minors? One would think he has opt out clause in his contract to where he can latch on another team? You know if their plans to call him up when he 100%?? Make no sense for the guy to stay in minors where team like Florida who has bullpen issue or another team could used him? Thought how long bard staying in camp? Does the guy have opt out clause in his contract?

There’s a very good chance Garko goes to Tacoma. Being put through waivers this time of spring isn’t unusual, you just don’t usually here about it. In this case, Garko’s agent leaked the info…..

thanks as i just recently went to northwest sport cars shop out in Unversity place to pick up some Seattle Mariners players card and I got his, so hoping he goes to tacoma as would like to get his autograph..

Thought Is their talk of Chad Cordero being add to the 40 man roster? Does the guy have opt out claus like Corey Patterson just did? I know he going to start season at Tacoma but for how long??

chad cordero hopes to be back in the big leagues by may, though that’s just one man’s hope at this point. he won’t be added to the 40-man unless or until he’s ready to pitch in the majors.
