Yes, there’s a lineup posted already for today’s game against the Texas Rangers – and there’s even a Ryan Garko on the bench.

Right-hander David Pauley, sent to minor league camp last week, will start the game as Felix Hernandez pitches in the minors. Pauley pitched well enough to make this team in most springs, but probably not this one.

Here’s your lineup:

  • Ichiro, RF
  • Chone Figgins, 2B
  • Casey Kotchman, 1B
  • Milton Bradley, LF
  • Mike Sweeney, DH
  • Jose Lopez, 3B
  • Franklin Gutierrez, CF
  • Adam Moore, C
  • Jack Wilson, SS
  • Pauley, P

Larry, I’m a little bit confused. Didn’t Garko have an option left and could be sent down to Tacoma without being waived? Is this an attempt by the Mariners to clear a spot on their 40 man roster without losing Garko, or are the Mariners trying to give Garko an opportunity to hook on with another major league team?

bubba – there’s other reasons to put a fellow through waivers – and every team puts a half dozen of so players into the system. one of those reasons is to find if there’s interest from another team in a player, then trying to work out a trade.
