National League game, National League park – no designated hitter – but Mike Sweeney will come along to pinch-hit at some point today.

Ken Griffey Jr.

Outfield/first base coach Lee Tinsley approached Ken GriffeyJr. and said he was coming to Glendale for a pinch-hit at-bat, and Junior smiled.

“Yeah, right,” he said.

Griffey doesn’t make spring road trips, in part to rest his steal-healing left knee, which was surgically repaired in the off-season.

Lots of other players do travel, and here’s today Seattle lineup vs. Los Angeles:

  • Ichiro, RF
  • Chone Figgins, 2B
  • Casey Kotchman, 1B
  • Milton Bradley, LF
  •  Jose Lopez, 3B
  • Adam Moore, C
  • Corey Patterson, CF
  • Jack Wilson, SS
  • Ian Snell, P

  1. If I was King, all spring training interleague games would have a dh. having the pitchers hit isn’t doing the mariners any favors as far as prepping for the season.

I’ll admit i am biased in favor of the DH, but my point’s still valid.

  2. If I were King, I’d get rid of the #9 hitter altogether, removing the NL’s ability to whine about how DH’s are “only half a player” and the AL’s ability to laugh at pitchers making absolute ninnies of themselves when they have to bat in NL parks.

Then again, if I were King the M’s would win the WS every year and the DH would be irrelevant.

  3. Oops, typo. Make that “… and the DH issue would be…”
