Will the Mariners experience a cover jinx?

The other day when I arrived to my humble abode in the ‘hood over in South Tacoma, I found my bi-weekly issue of ESPN the Magazine waiting in my mail box and when I looked at the cover guess what I was greeted with …

Imagine my surprise. Inside there was a story by Jeff Bradley on the Mariners talking about our cover boys and the idea of run prevention. Obviously, we’ve heard of the Sports Illustrated cover jinx. But does ESPN the Magazine have one?

Well, um this cover photo was shot before Lee got into that little dust-up/collision with Arizona’s Chris Snyder that led to his five-game suspension and his strained lower abdominal muscle. And if you read Larry’s post earlier, we know that Lee has been shut down for the time being.

Do I believe in jinxes? Not really.  But I’m just pointing out the coincidence. Maybe I should start.

Anyway there is also this alternate cover.

If you are a subscriber to ESPN insider (and you should be simply for Buster Olney’s blog) you can also watch this video of Ryan Rowland-Smith taking over as the media and doing some interviews during the photo shoot.
