UPDATE: I was just on with Ian Furness on KJR-AM — you can listen to it here
Hope your lunch went well. I took it easy after having these last night …

Think about how big those burgers are, and now think about the fact that those are only double burgers and that two years ago Carlos Silva ate four quadruple burgers. Maybe it’s why he looked like this …
Anyway, I’m sitting here watching the Angels and Padres, but I figured I’d toss up some links for you to peruse.
I tweeted this earlier, but the Mariners commercials are out. And they are pretty good.
It’s hard to rate them. I think my two favorites are:
The Felix Hernandez/Cliff Lee commercial. The way Felix talks is so funny and Cliff Lee is great at looking annoyed in it. It reminds me of when Bubba is telling Forrest Gump all of the uses for shrimp. And the Chone Figgins appearance at the end is great.I wonder how many of the names he mentions that he actually knows who they are.
Ichiro/Junior commercial. Anytime you have Ichiro speaking English, it’s a bonus. Of course, you have to have Jack Z in the sweater vest night. And the end is great.
The others …
The Gutierrez-Wakamatsu-Zduriencik commercial saves the best part for the last. But I will have to say I’m impressed with Wak’s golf swing.
The bullpen immortalized is pretty good. They need to have that portrait hanging in the dugout.
The Rowland-Smith – “Hyphen” t-shirt is good. Rowland-Smith looks pretty natural acting. But I think the M’s better be making up some of those shirts to sell or give away.
And of course, the Mariners also released a blooper real from all those commercials
As for the baseball stuff …
For those of you still interested in the Cliff Lee stuff… this mlb.com story as video of the pitch and his interview. Meanwhile, D’backs manager A.J. Hinch – a onetime teammate of Lee -offers his thoughts on it.
Foxsports.com’s Jon Paul Morosi writes that Jarrod Washburn is still a possibility for the Mariners. I think the only way that happens is if the other guys vying for the fifth spot fall on their face or someone in the rotation is injured.
ProballNW’s Conor Dowley and Jon Shields both offer their thoughts … I agree with them, I just want some finality in the situation.
Shawn Kelley’s first attempt to get stretched out for some middle relief didn’t got quite as well as hoped. His first inning yesterday in Tucson was solid, including two strikeouts. But the second inning, he four runs on six hits and only recorded just one out. Wakamatsu thought he was rushing his delivery a little bit. He also stressed the importance of his finding his location with his changeup.
Jeff Sullivan of Lookout Landing offers a good breakdown of stretching out Kelley.
Around the AL West …
Talented power hitting third baseman Brandon Wood will replace Chone Figgins at third base.
The Rangers have plenty of arms on their pitching staff, but Evan Grant writes that it is not the same as depth.
Ben Sheets had the worst outing in the history of spring training for the A’s – but he feels good.

If they don’t sell the hyphen shirts I’m gonna make one. And if you want to give yourself nightmares, look at the Lookout Landing thread about the commercials – someone wants to put the bullpen face on a shirt. Yikes.
Btw Ryan – Double Double, Animal Style, and find a good beer. About as close to the glory of the Mo Club as you can get in the Southwest!

Ahhh, the Mo Club. A burger with pepper jack, friend onions, spicy mustard and a semi-cold PBR. That’s heaven.

Swap that out for a Bayern Pils and I’m right there with you – though PBR does work in a pinch!
(For some reason people down here in SoCal think us Montana folks drink a lot. Wonder why…)

The commercials aren’t awful, but I think they really need to find a new shtick. If you compare these to the “classic” ones (Buhner blinding batters with his head, the Jamie Moyer ultra-slow changeup) there’s just no comparison.
Even great ad campaigns eventually get old, and we’ve obviously gotten to that point. I suspect the ad guys have been telling the M’s that for a while, but companies have a real hard time letting go of what they perceive as having been successful – and in the end the customer always wins that argument.

Jon Paul Morosi wishes he still knew baseball in the NW.

And yeah, the commercials could use some new life. That first season the ads weren’t even really about baseball. Very classic, very funny.

Hey Ryan, did you go to the In and Out at 83rd and Bell? That is just down the street from my house.

Man, In and Out sure sounds good right now. I don’t think I can proclaim to be a fan of any of yours! Why would you do this to us poor saps in WA?!

Can the M’s bring in Washburn like they did with Sweeny? It could workout for both parties.
