Just got off the telephone with Jamie Moyer, who turned  47 last week and was admitted to the hospital today in Philadelphia.

The bad news is, it’s his second hospitalization since Oct. 2 surgery to repair torn tendons in his groin and abdomen – an injury that knocked him out of the post-season with the Philadelphia Phillies.

That was bad enough, missing the chance to pitch in his second consecutive World Series, but the former Mariner has had issues with blood infection since the operation.

“It’s been going on for a while, and it reached the point where it bothered me so much it was just stupid,” Moyer said.

The good news is this is not life-threatening, although  his situation is frustrating and worriesome because doctors don’t know precisely what’s wrong. Moyer is awaiting lab test results, and resting comfortably if unhappily.

The left-hander pitched for Seattle Mariners from 1996 through 2006, and won more games – 145 – than anyone in franchise history. Get well soon, lefty.
