What I'm trying to say is that we can lock up these guys with some risk for less than what it would cost to get Washburn (according to you we can get both of them) and their upside is much higher than Washburn's. We probably saw the best of Wash last year and I would expect a regression from him. In the end my personal preference is Rich Harden. If that is true then we could take both Bedard and Sheets and if one of them shows up and can pitch a decent amount of the year then we are contenders and if both are able to stay healthy we are probably going to make playoffs. I know many of you may have had this thought... but.... I think that proffessional sports players contracts should all be performance based.. Make everything incentive based. I hate seeing when players get awarded big contracts, then they become injury ridden, or just plain forget how to play the game. Here’s a thought.. If he wants to come back it should be for much less than Harden, Sheets, or Bedard. Even with their injury risk they are much more valuable than Washburn. Last year was a little luck and a really awesome outfield. He simply can't be that effective away from Safeco and our outfielders. I'll take him for nice discount though. He has never been worth more than roughly 6 or 7 million a year. I wouldn't mind a 2 yr 9 million deal. Anything over 4.5 mill a year and I say let someone else bite. I followed the Tacoma Rainiers and didn't see him down there in Tacoma.. He seems to have a bright future ahead of him too... But like I've said in previous posts, I really think the M's should look towards players who hit the ball! They seem to have so much depth at pitching that we really don't need anymore of them guys!
