Ichiro Suzuki, who led the American League in hits, intentional walks and had its longest hitting streak – 27 games – has added his ninth consecutive Gold Glove.

The Seattle Mariners right fielder has won the Gold Glove, awarded for fielding excellence and voted upon by AL managers and coaches, each season since coming to the big leagues in 2001.

Center fielder Franklin Gutierrez, who led the majors in putouts last season, did not win a Gold Glove. Neither did third baseman Adrian Beltre, whose season was plagued by injury.

The 2009 AL Gold Glove winners:

Catcher – Joe Mauer, Twins
First base – Mark Teixeira, Yankees
Second base – Placido Polanco, Tigers
Third base – Evan Longoria, Rays
Shortstop – Derek Jeter, Yankees
Outfield – Ichiro, Mariners
Outield – Torii Hunter, Angels
Outfield – Adam Jones, Orioles
Pitcher – Mark Buerhle, White Sox

  1. Every time I read “Adam Jones, Orioles” I throw up a little in my mouth.
