Jack Z finds another pitcher on the wires

Last spring, Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik rarely let a week go by without claiming one pitcher or another off waivers - and he's back at it this off-season.
The man who grabbed pitchers like Luis Pena and Jesus Delgado and signed Chad Cordero and Tyler Walker to minor league deals has snared Yusmeiro Petit off waivers from Arizona.
Using the theory tha no amount of pitching is ever enough, Zduriencik grabs cheap pitching when its available and waits to see what his coaching staff can make of it.
Petit turns 25 this month, a right-hander who appeared in 23 games for the Diamondbacks last season, going 3-10 with a 5.82 ERA. In 17 starts, he went 3-9, 5.72 and struck out 71 batters in 53 innings.
In his big-league career with the Marlins (2006) and Diamondbacks (2007-09), Petit is 10-20 with a 5.57 ERA in 71 appearances, 36 of those starts. In eight seasons in the minor leagues, he compiled a 43-34 record with a 3.41 ERA in 126 appearances (125 GS).
Not a sexy move, but one that gives the Mariners a bit more depth and another project for pitching coaches Rick Adair and bullpen coach John Wetteland.

hey larry on my question in the infield part do you know if their plans to resign some Tacoma Rainers player and give them shot at ST???
waiver-wire pitchers, sure. But can he sign Hideki Matsui?
This addition has me baffled... Petit hasn't pitched well at the mjr league level...
Hey, why not. We'll need more than that to beat....... Them.......
I guess if you through enough stuff at the wall, something's bound to stick eventually............
Aardsma didn't pitch well at any major league level, either. Let this no-risk move play out...sometimes it takes talent a while to truly develop. I do like Petit's strikeouts per inning ratio...could be valuable as a middle reliever.
