Seattle Mariners Bryan LaHair, Cesar Jimenez and Randy Messenger have been outrighted to Tacoma – making each eligible for free agency – and Justin Thomas has been claimed by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Outfielder-first baseman LaHair, 26, and pitchers Jimenez, 24, and Messenger, 28, could accept their assignments or choose to become free agents. A fourth player, pitcher Marwin Vega, 23, has been outrighted to Tacoma but is not eligible for free agency.

Thomas, a 25-year-old left hander, was claimed off waivers by the Pirates.

LaHair, a first baseman who played mostly in left field with Tacoma, hit .289 with 28 doubles, 2 triples, 26 home runs and 85 RBI in 121 games with the Rainiers this season.

Lefty Jimenez spent the season on the disabled list and had surgery last month to repair a torn labrum. Messenger was 0-2, with 25 saves and a 2.86 ERA in 52 games with Tacoma before getting a September callup.

Thomas went 2-4 with a 4.48 ERA and six saves in 53 games for the Rainiers.

The moves leave the the Mariners 40-man roster a 35.

I hope Randy Messanger stay with Seattle Mariners but I can accept that he might leave which will make me sad as I am fan of him, thought I did get to have picture with him and autograph but I hope to see him do good in the Majors just wish Seattle Mariners gave him better shot.

Thought I see Bryan LeHair filling for Free Agent and getting a better shot else where as their isnt spot for him with Seattle Mariners.

Thought why get rid of Ceaser J? Is he still in plans for Mariners or not?

  2. Cesar had a serious arm injury. It may be that he is not the player he once was.

Cesar was never much of a player before the arm injury…a LH reliever with an underwhelming fastball and a slightly above average change-up.

I hope that LaHair catches on somewhere and does well…seemed like a good guy in Tacoma…just no room for him in the Mariner organization at the moment. (Welcome aboard, Mike Carp!)

  4. Shame they didn’t keep Lahair, if nothing else he would have been at upgrade at dh.

If they didnt call him up when they need a 1B than why and ask yourself would they keep him??

I would like to see Bryan LeHair do good but he better off suited for team that cant afford or want to pay alot of money * cough* Pirates * Cough* Tampa * Cough* Brewers

  6. If they didnt call him up when they need a 1B than why and ask yourself would they keep him??

The answer would appear to be that someone in the M’s organization is not fond of Mr LaHair or his abilities. I disagree, at least compared to other options. Right now even with Carp at 1b, LaHair would be our #1 hitting option off the bench or #1 candidate for dh.

LaHair is decent hitter but would make sense just to let him leave and see and hope he does better with diffrent orgization
