The Seattle Mariners had a fine season, though a few ex-patriots are having better ones – and unless the Minnesota Twins win the World Series, some former Mariner is going home with a ring.
The Twins are the only post-season team without a former Seattle player on their roster. In all, 15 ex-Mariners played for the playoff teams.
The Rockies (catcher Yorvit Torrealba) and Angels (closer Brian Fuentes) have only one former Mariner each.
The Yankees (third baseman Alex Rodriguez, left-hander Damaso Marte), Cardinals (pitchers Joel Pineiro and Ryan Franklin) and Dodgers (pitchers George Sherrill and – hold your breath – Jeff Weaver) have two apiece.
Then, there’s the Red Sox, who have catcher Jason Varitrek, infielder Chris Woodward and DH David Ortiz, who once labored in the Seattle minor league system.
Most ex-Mariners? That honor belongs to Philadelphia, where Jamie Moyer was a starter, reliever and now an observer because of injury.
Beyond Moyer, however, the Phillies have outfielder Raul Ibanez and two utility players in Greg Dobbs and Miguel Cairo.
The odds that at least one ex-Mariner is going to win the World Series are great. Until next season, that’s about the best a Mariner fan can root for this October.
Hey, how about Mariners actually win rings with, you know, the Mariners? I hate this rooting for former players deal. How about we win some here for once?

Im going to have to say I really wish the World Series to be the Twins and the Phillies, but it seems like the Twins got the biggest hill to climb with facing New York…
If New York somehow makes it past the Angles or the Red Sox, I hope they get their asses handed to them by the Dodgers or the Phillies. Someone needs to make those queers who play for New York realize, that NOT always does MONEY and HUGE CONTRACTS guarentee you a ring!

Make mine Raul and the Phillies. Cards are are close second, although it has nothing to do with ex-Mariners.
I didn’t even know Sherrill had gone to the Dodgers until yesterday. Ignorance without the bliss.

If Ryan Franklin, Joel Pineiro and the Cardinals win it, all will be right with the World. Especially if it’s a Cards-Yankees World Series.

NYY will be winning it hands downs period. Thought not fan of A-fraud but let be real twins will be swept in 3 games, boston will have to face a good Angles team and I would like to see Chris Woodward, Joey Gathright who are good bench players get it but if Josh Beckett isnt healthy than who are they counting on for their pitching staff?

But the Red Sox have Nick Green!

I really wanted to see Moyer get a ring, & then he got injured…………

Moyer got his last year…still want to see the Phillies win it for Raul. Dodgers are a close 2nd because of Sherrill.

Boston has nick green and Chris woodward but Green is on DL and Woodward was left off the playoff roster.
Twins have Mike Redmond who isnt a former mariner but is from Washington.

Though I’m not a big Phillies fan, if I’m rooting for a player, it’s gotta be Raul Ibanez. Which lets me root for Moyer too. They worked for years as model citizens in the Mariners death spiral of doom, and they deserve to do well. Jamie got his ring last year, and I’d love to see Raul get his.
Honestly I hope the Twins win it all-but I’m an eternal optimist.

A-rod will get the world series ring. Finally, he’s producing in the post season. Looks like a Yankees vs Dodgers world series again. Joe Torre returning to New York. It will be a hug a thon, and then the Yanks will get down to business.

Now that A-Rod is producing I think the Yankees will go all the way. Believe me, I don’t want them too, but I think they will. They’ve got the best players money can buy. Their whole line-up is just awesome. Texeira, Jeter, Matsui, A-Rod, Damon, etc etc. I know it aint fair but it can’t be denied. I wouldn’t count Boston out until the last minute though. They’re a tough team when their backs are against the wall as we saw in 04. National League is up for grabs. I’d like to see the Phillies or Cards. Growing up in San Diego makes me a life-long Dodger hater anyway. HaHa.
I’m glad the post season takes a while to finish these days. I love the game of baseball and the shorter the gap from the World Series to Spring training makes me a happier guy..

The good karma of the entire world cannot allow Alex Rodriguez a World Series ring. Never! Never ever ever ever ever!
