Brandon Morrow, who began the 2009 season as the Seattle closer, will return to the team this week and join the starting rotation on Friday – in Luke French’s spot.

Morrow is starting today for Tacoma, but unless he’s injured he will make the start Friday in Texas.

French, the left-hander acquired from Detroit in the Jarrod Washburn trade, will finish the season in the bullpen.

Morrow made 16 relief appearances and six starts for Seattle this year, going 0-4 with a 5.28 earned run average and six saves. In Tacoma, before today’s start, Morrow went 5-2 with a 3.71 ERA in nine starts.

French has made seven starts with Seattle, going 3-3 with a 6.38 ERA – and opposing batters hit .316 against him.

Looking for the spot to drop Morrow into, the Mariners had their decision made easier by French’s last two games. In those, he pitched 8 2/3 innings and allowed 12 runs.

Morrow will join the team in Anaheim in the next few days.

  1. The R’s lost today. I can’t find a box score or story anywhere. Anyone know if or how the Morrow situation impacted the loss? He was supposed to to start for the R’s today. Due to today’s loss, tomorrow’s season finale is a 1 game play off for the PCL pennant.

  2. I got PART of my answer at the Times; Morrow was pulled after 4 innings. They didn’t say how many runs he gave up. TNT: As THE Tacoma paper, you should have had a story on this online. Sad to be scooped by the Times on a Tacoma story & by several hours.

BTW, I’m rather pissed. The M’s aren’t competing for anything. The R’s are. It wouldn’t have hurt Morrow to pitch 7, then take his next start in 5 days. Now if Morrow gave up all 5 runs in his 4 innings, that’s another story, but even the Tiems won’t bother to give us that info……………..

  3. Does anyone know if the R’s won today (Monday)?
