TACOMA: City needs to back off on windows

Diane Burke, the owner of a North Tacoma home dating back to the 19th century h,as been treated unjustly by the Tacoma City Council.

At her own expense she is being unfairly made to replace her vinyl windows with much more expensive wood-frame windows by the Landmarks and Preservation Commission and the Tacoma City Council. These two groups want to hold Diane accountable for preserving her historical old house, which for them means forcing her to remove her vinyl windows.

TACOMA: Sanity check needed over windows

Re: “City challenges vinyl windows” (TNT, 2-23).

As Diane Burke’s neighbor, I felt I needed to share my thoughts on her and those vinyl windows that have everyone in a tizzy.

This woman has enhanced our neighborhood and her home. She’s set up neighborhood parties, helped facilitate permit parking for the residents and encouraged foot traffic to help themselves to her annual bumper crop of tomatoes
