ELECTION: Support South King fire bond

I urge a yes vote on the April 28 election of the bond for South King Fire & Rescue.

The district has earned the best rating in Washington for overall performance. Proposition 1 will maintain this rating, which keeps insurance rates low, for fast emergency medical and cardiac response and help keep South King County safe. It also includes funds for needed fire station upgrades, decontamination areas, earthquake safety improvements, up-to-date fire trucks and ambulances, and technology infrastructure upgrades.

South King firefighters respond to more than 17,000 emergency calls for firefighting, basic life support and cardiac arrests. Prop. 1 will upgrade

William (Bill) Gates has served as a South King Fire & Rescue fire commissioner for the past 12 years and was elected board president for the last four. ELECTION: Please support South King fire levy

I ask all concerned citizens to please vote yes on the South King Fire & Rescue maintenance and operations levy Aug. 7. The fire department cannot charge for the services it provides; it is totally dependent upon property taxes that are calculated from property values.

We all know that home values have been declining. The fire department has lost more than 22 percent of its annual operating budget and has eliminated 26 staff positions. We cannot afford to let our services decline any further.

I realize our economy is hurting and of course want government to be efficient, but this

FWAY: Support fire/EMS ballot measure

When I was younger, I thought the fire department’s job was merely to fight fires. As I have grown older, I now understand the vital role they play as first responders in our community. When we find ourselves amidst crisis, the fire department is called upon to bring calm to our storms.

These past few years have been difficult for us all with a struggling economy and falling home values. Not only have we been affected but our fire department has as well. South King Fire and Rescue has responsibly done the best with what we as taxpayers have given

SOUTH KING: Support fire district excess levy

South King Fire & Rescue – encompassing Des Moines, Federal Way and parts of South King County – needs our help. Everyone knows that the economy the last few years has been in the dumps. But not everyone knows that our fire district’s operating funds come solely from property taxes; with property values decreasing 20 percent or more, it’s obvious that the district must tighten its belt.

It has already greatly reduced operating expenses: 23 personnel are gone, including 13 firefighter/EMTs, and a a full-time aid car and a half-time aid car have been eliminated. Unfortunately, the economic picture is

SOUTH KING: Galland for fire commissioner

After seeing so many campaign signs and other advertising for Jerry Galland’s opponent, I finally went to the Public Disclosure Commission to see where he is getting all of his money. Sure enough, his main contributions are from public employee unions.

Then I went to see where the money Galland is spending came from.

Galland has put action to his campaign promise of being open and accessible. Even though he is not required to file reports with the PDC, he freely sent in all reports so that anyone can see who is paying for his campaign. Personal funds,
