The three-strikes law that incarcerates ‘persistent offenders’ for life without the possibility of parole is unjust and very expensive. There would not be so many “persistent offenders” if we had had the programs to educate them and rehabilitate them.
Advocates of “tough on crime” should realize the necessity of reform. Three-strikers were not offered treatment, education or rehab programs after their first strike. They were not offered treatment, education or rehab programs after their second strike. Set up to fail, no need for any programs after the third strike because now they’re not going anywhere EVER.
