ELECTION: TNT erred in endorsing Angel

I am disappointed that The News Tribune took the easy way out in merely endorsing the incumbents in the 26th Legislative District races. State Rep. Jan Angel is simply not in the same league with state Sen. Derek Kilmer and state Rep. Larry Seaquist. Dr. Sumner Schoenike is.

To say that Angel’s legislative record is thin is gross overstatement; it is nonexistent. Using the excuse that she is in the minority party only begs the question: Did she propose any legislation of substance? The answer is plainly, no.

Schoenike, far from a political newcomer, is a board member of Franciscan

ELECTION: 26th District voters got it right

The 26th Legislative District voters got it right when the majority supported Derek Kilmer, Larry Seaquest and Jan Angel in the primary. We in the 26th are lucky to have these highly competent legislators working for us in Olympia.

All three supported their constituents’ wishes by voting against the repeal of I-960, the state operating budget and the recent rash of tax increases. Both Larry and Derek have been instrumental in keeping the Tacoma Narrows Bridge tolls down and successfully pushing for the completion of the Burley/Olalla interchange. Jan’s Kitsap County executive experience is proving beneficial for legislation that

ELECTION: Kilmer, Seaquist represent district

We have a representative government – that is, we vote for people to be in the state Legislature who will represent our viewpoints. Sen. Derek Kilmer and Rep. Larry Seaquist have done this with their votes.

They knew that the people had spoken with the passage of Initiative 960. They also know that raising taxes is a recession hinders economic recovery.

Yes, they did vote for a few highly targeted measures. Research shows that raising the price of tobacco is directly related to decreasing the percentage of teens who smoke, and raising the tax on tobacco is the only way

ELECTION: Hold those incumbents accountable

Campaign fliers from 26th Legislative District incumbents Larry Seaquist and Derek Kilmer both state that they stood up their party and the governor and voted no on taxes, the overturn of Initiative 960 and all the spending in the budget.

Don’t fall for this. It’s obvious the majority party gave them both a pass to vote no because they reside in a conservative swing district. Look at the Democrats who voted no. They all are from swing districts. This is a classic political maneuver.

Voters need to ask themselves, “Is there such a thing as a moderate Democrat”? When those
