ELECTION: Candidate trying to buy 27th seat

In the recent News Tribune article focusing on the 27th District state Senate race, Jack Connelly claimed he is not trying to buy the election. It is clear that’s exactly what he is attempting to do. Why else would he be investing $988,000 of his own money into this campaign?

With only $75,000 contributed by others, it totals over $1,065,000. In the prior 27th District race, candidates spent in the range of $200,000 each. This is consistent with the $233,000 that Jeannie Darnielle has raised for this election, all from donations by others. A $1 million campaign is unprecedented

ELECTION: Connelly would be a leader

I have been very impressed with Jack Connelly’s campaign and the work it is doing to show voters what their representative has actually been doing in Olympia. State Rep. Jeannie Darneille’s votes are extreme for the 27th District and reflect very questionable judgment.

Darneille is acting like she is entitled to the office and nobody should dare to run against her or question her votes. I disagree very strongly with this type of attitude.

In Tacoma we have tended to move the same people around from office to office. We don’t seem to elect people who have a track record

ELECTION: Connelly’s out of touch with 27th

I was shocked when I read that Jack Connelly had contributed almost $1 million to his own campaign to beat state Rep. Jeannie Darneille in the race for the 27th district Senate seat (Political Buzz, 10-18).

As a member of the House, Darneille has been a stalwart defender of services that help the most vulnerable members of our community. She has stood up to preserve safety net services and funds to help end homelessness, and been successful in those efforts. Her understanding of the needs of families struggling in this difficult economy is one of the best reasons to

ELECTION: Jeannie Darneille the right choice for 27th

I am incredibly disgusted by the fact that Jack Connelly has spent more than $988,000 on his race to defeat state Rep. Jeannie Darneille (Political Buzz, 10-17).

I served two years in Iraq fighting for what I thought was a democratic country, but now I question that notion. It is horrifying and shows a severe lack of fairness. How can you compete against someone who will spend that much money to spout their lies and distortions?

I am a college student with little more than a couple hundred dollars to my name at any given time. How could my

ELECTION: Connelly a better fit for Tacoma

I am an independent voter, and I am voting for Jack Connelly.

Tacoma is multicultural and economically varied; we are Democrats, Republicans and a majority of us are independents. We are free thinkers, creative, artistic and love nature. We are liberal, conservative and everything in between.

I believe that Connelly is the best fit for Tacoma as state senator because of the work he has done in the Legislature, our community and through the courts to advocate for individual people and small businesses in order to change laws and improve safety and quality of life for us all.

I am

ELECTION: Connelly ads making false claims

Dramatic campaign commercials by 27th District Senate candidate Jack Connelly that accuse his opponent, state Rep. Jeanne Darnielle, of slashing $4 billion from the state education budget are simply ridiculous – a political smear job, false on their face.

Connelly, an attorney skilled with the techniques of propaganda, previously produced extrapolating and exaggerating hit ads that seemed to suggest that Darnielle was responsible for the murder of a Tacoma schoolgirl and the tragic vehicle death of a Tacoma mother. His claims are false.

Darnielle was not an elected representative when those events occurred. Connelly skewed the facts to play on

ELECTION: Baarsma letter misrepresents Connelly ad

Re: “Connelly runs distorted ad” (letter, 9-21).

I was very bothered by Bill Baarsma’s attack on the Jack Connelly campaign in the 27th Legislative District and found it to be very misleading.

Baarsma is certainly entitled to support whomever he wants, but he should do it in a forthright and standup manner, without trying to misrepresent the ads run by the other campaign. Those ads point to the fact that, notwithstanding the fact that Tacoma has had some terrible tragedies that could have been prevented, state Rep. Jeannie Darneille has voted for bills that are contrary to issues raised

ELECTION: Article does Darneille a disservice

I am dismayed by the Smell Test article (TNT, 10-2) on Jack Connelly’s negative ads about state Rep. Jeannie Darneille, because it ignores innuendo and misleading fuzziness.

Take, for example, the mailer on the tragic death of Paula Joyce.

First, Connelly doesn’t mention that Joyce died in 1997, four years before Darneille began serving in the Legislature, because he wants us to think that Darneille’s votes caused Joyce’s death.

Second, Joyce died in a traffic collision with a driver under the influence of drugs, but the bill that Connelly features in the mailer had nothing to do with traffic
