Re: “State Republicans have a way back, if they want it” (editorial, 11-11).

Your advice to state Republicans on how to “come back” rang hollow as your newspaper is brimming with obvious praise for Democrats and Republican criticism with an occasional bone thrown to Republicans. For example, you endorsed Rob McKenna for governor. Even that sounds hollow when almost every word spilling off your pages supports a Democrat/Democrat lite view.

The thoughts that prompted the words were likely along the lines of: If only you Republicans would become more like us Democrats. If only you could understand that abortion is a way of life. If only you Republicans could understand that promising to give away the store to those who vote for you will bring in the votes you need (be more like Robin Hood). If only you could pander to “minorities” like Democrats do. If only you would get rid of certain people – Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, et al.

While I do not agree with everything they say, I will take Limbaugh or Palin speaking for me rather than have Chris Matthews or Ed Schultz speaking for me.

If the answer is to become “Democrat lite,” I guess the Republicans will have to accept the role of loyal opposition, because they are unlikely to abandon their principles to win elections. Democrats seem to have no such boundaries. I wish your paper were more informative, as opposed to being amusing.

Based on the number of letters to the editor published online and in hard copy in this paper, it is obvious that far too many Washingtonians will be casting their vote based on what they hear on talk radio, see on Fox “News” and believe from the likes of Donald Trump and Ann Coulter. If you think the president is a “retard,” a socialist, a communist, a Kenyan, a terrorist or hates America it might be time to turn off your TV and your radio and think for yourself.

I wish the TNT had mentioned that.

It is clear to the most moderately intelligent observer that the GOP has already ceded the 2012 election to President Obama.

The party’s serious candidates – Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels, Chris Christie and David Petraeus – have deferred until 2016. This leaves the Republican stage crowded with clowns and losers.

Newt Gingrich was rejected by his own party in a previous Congress. Rick Santorum lost his last election by double digits. The Donald and the Willard can only be regarded as Marie Antoinettes in gray flannel.

It is sad to see the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower brought down to the level of vaudeville. Any politician who grovels before Donald Trump to get an endorsement deserves our pity, but surely not our vote.

To my horror, I now find myself agreeing with Donald Trump. Not about the president’s birthplace issue, but about our culture.

We are our own worst enemies. We refuse to face financial realities. We overpay our corporate executives to take our jobs, and financial managers to give us our own money. We overpay our professional atheletes to take our time. We overpay our entertainers to take our energy. We overeat (imported) foods, play (imported) games and CDs, and use (imported) drugs to comfort ourselves.

Notice – no products except fat, garbage and mind-numbness.

We cannot continue to have only services to sell each other, we need products. We send our money to other countries instead of creating valuable things we can sell to them (we had the chance with solar cells, computers, etc., but we are again buying them from overseas).

At least the Romans had lead in the water to cause their stupidity and eventual self-destruction. The didn’t know they were failing. We do. Might as well vote for The Donald at this point, or Caesar.

Re: “Trump candidacy is laughable – and a bit terrifying” (Eugene Robinson column, 4-20).

It didn’t take long for the liberal supporters of everything Obama to start their engines. Yes, Robinson is one of many who have come out and started their campaign to discredit and attack anyone who questions anything about Obama.

The far left liberal talk shows have interviewed Donald Trump and are doing their very best to trip him up on answers to questions none of them have ever had the courage to ask Obama. They even include difficult follow-up questions, which never seem to get asked of Obama.

The Donald may or may not decide to run. However, his decision to run would make this a very interesting and enlightening election, especially during the debates that would ensue. The Donald sees the world situations as they are occurring and has solutions to a lot of them.

The mainstream media’s goal is to make a clown of him and use their interviews and columns to discredit him. They have every right to attack his opinions on what needs to be done to fix the deficit, end the wars (including Obama’s new war in Libya) and get the economy moving. What they are doing, however, is attacking and ridiculing him in order to render his opinions and ideas as terrifying and foolish.

If only the media would have done a better job at vetting Obama; many of the problems now facing America could have been averted.

Donald Trump loudly and vociferiously stated that the president’s “birth certificate” was not real because it was a certificate of live birth. “That’s not a birth certificate,” he said.

I could freeze the image on the TV screen of the “Certificate of Live Birth” of the president for close examination: It had the state seal of Hawaii and an impressed stamp and the usual information.

I dug out our birth certificates and, horrors, the official state documents of our births were “certificates of live birth.” We also had the decorative “Certificate of Birth” and “Birth Certificate” that the hospital hands out so you have something to take home, but these are not legal documents.

According to Trump, none of my family, or the rest of the people born in Washington, are U.S. citizens.

In my book, the D stands for dumb.
