ELECTION: Great debate, but keep Murray

Re: ” Murray, Rossi play dodgeball” (TNT, 10-18).

Both Patty Murray and Dino Rossi were articulate and courteous in their debate Sunday. Neither changed my vote.

As I see it, Rossi wants a return to inadequately regulated banks. That started the whole world’s economic crash from which we’re painfully trying to extricate ourselves.

Obama’s efforts haven’t succeeded perfectly. But my father was a Republican legislator during the Great Depression – until he turned Democratic. He admitted that continuing Hoover laissez-faire policies would likely have caused armed revolution, with 30 million unemployed in our then populace of less than 150 million.

ELECTION: Less control from government

After watching the debate between Patty Murray and Dino Rossi, it all comes down to: Do you want more government running your life, or do you want less government running you life?

While neither candidate ran away with a true victory, all the indications for Murray is that she is for more government control. I don’t want the government telling me what to do and when to do it.

Murray must be really worried if she will pull off a victory, and also the big boys in Washington, D.C., must owe her some big political favors to come all the

ELECTION: Senate race coverage ignores debt crisis

In all of The News Tribune’s extensive coverage of the Patty Murray-Dino Rossi Senate contest, readers have seen little or no reference to the looming debt crisis that will very likely bring us to our knees.

Riots consume France, Greece is on life support and Japan’s middle class is sinking, but Murray’s role in the unsustainable spending is treated as if nothing has changed.

This treatment would be fine if Washington, D.C., could continue to operate as it has and Murray’s ability to stand up for our state’s interest were all that mattered. Unfortunately, neither is true.

ELECTION: Rossi-Murray debate was revealing

I watched the debate that took place in Spokane Thursday. I am not a Republican or a Democrat. I have not paid much attention to Patty Murray during her years in Congress.

But watching the debate was alarming. It was like watching a smart-aleck ninth-grader (Dino Rossi), debating with a thoughtful college professor (Murray). He either avoided answering questions or gave short, one-line, sarcastic Tea party-type answers that indicated very little thought or understanding of issues.

Murray gave detailed answers that actually addressed questions and showed a lot of concern for the citizens of Washington state and her efforts to

ELECTION: Better a lapdog than a hungry puppy

I read with amusement a letter describing U.S. Sen. Patty Murray as a lapdog to Harry Reid.

I would prefer a lapdog who has the ear of the Senate majority Leader than a puppy who has to stand in line just to get to the dog dish on the back porch.

We would be quite foolish to dismiss a hardworking, experienced senator who has worked diligently and without scandal for the people of Washington state in order to replace her with an inexperienced, unknown person who has repeatedly been rejected the voters and has been involved in some shady mortgage

ELECTION: Replace all federal incumbents

The ads running against Patty Murray are true. Research the Roll Call; she voted for all the bills that has our country in trillions of dollars of debt.

Many still blame President Bush for the problems we are having. He can be blamed for the first stimulus bill, but the blame for the rest of the bailouts is on this administration. The Democrats have been in control of Congress since 2006 and of Washington state since 2004. What a mess our country is in.

Murray is concerned about the debt piling up that her grandchild will have to pay years

ELECTION: Vote out Murray and Smith

Adam Smith and Patty Murray keep telling us they are moderates, only looking out for our best interests. Every one of their votes show how ridiculous those claims are.

Sixty percent of voters in Washington opposed Obamacare, but Murray and Smith voted yes. We asked for jobs, and they bailed out banks that won’t lend businesses money. Boeing and other employers fled the state.

Murray is the second largest recipient of special interest money in the Senate, and she has the guts to accuse Dino Rossie of being owned by special interests? Smith told the voters he had the influence

ELECTION: GOP puts middle class in jeopardy

The coming election has me worried about the future of America. The greatness of America has not been because of “freedom” as many people think, but rather because of “equality,” which is usually measured by the large middle class.

But the middle class has been shrinking since Ronald Reagan was elected. We have faced this problem historically on two prior occasions. The maverick Teddy Roosevelt led the Progressive Party to correct the excesses of the decades post-Civil War period. Franklin Roosevelt had to remedy the disaster created by the three Republican presidents who preceded him.

Now Barack Obama
