BUDGET: Legislators mustn’t cut vital Medicare services

As a health care provider who cares for Tacoma-area patients with kidney failure who rely on life-saving dialysis, I want to thank Congressman Derek Kilmer for his recent visit to DaVita’s Tacoma Dialysis Clinic to learn more about kidney care in our community.

Kidney failure patients receive 4-hour dialysis sessions three times a week – 80 percent of whom rely on Medicare to pay for their care with a “bundled” payment covering a multitude of services including lab services, nursing care, medications and more. TRAFFIC: Cyclists think they rule the road

Bicyclists still refuse to share the road with cars. I was walking my dog along Fifth Street Northeast in Puyallup when I noticed a stream of bicyclists turning onto my street. My street is a main thoroughfare, and cars are always on it. I was shocked to see many of the bicyclists ignoring cars which had to slow down to 5 mph behind them. Five bicyclists would own the entire lane. Some angry car drivers drove past on the oncoming lane.

I yelled, asking who they were. One shouted “DaVita!”

I yelled, “Go double file,” and one yelled back, “Hey!”
