ELECTION: Flemming better understands Tacoma issues

As a longtime Tacoma resident who grew up in Gig Harbor, I strongly support re-electing Stan Flemming to the Pierce County Council. I would like to join Tacoma leaders such as Tim Farrell, Karen Vialle, Ryan Mello, Victoria Woodards, David Boe, Tacoma Police Union #6 and others in supporting the best candidate.

In this era of partisan gridlock and lack of progress in government, it is imperative we elect officials who care more about problem solving than politically driven opportunism. Flemming’s opponent has defined his candidacy in past mailers by partisan politics and blame and does not have a coherent

TACOMA: Public money for campaigns is a good idea

Re: “Public money for campaigns, term-limit extensions suggested” (TNT, 6-4).

I’m delighted that Tacoma City Council members Marty Campbell and David Boe are working on a proposal to amend the Tacoma charter to include the option of financing City Council and mayoral campaigns with public dollars.

TACOMA: City joins others seeking campaign finance reform

On Tuesday, the Tacoma City Council joined more than 150 municipalities and counties throughout the United States by passing a resolution which states, in part, that corporations are not people with constitutional rights.

In this state, Tacoma joins Bellingham, Olympia, Port Townsend, Seattle, Jefferson County, Snohomish County and Island County in lobbying the state legislature to pass a memorial (formal request) to Congress requesting legislation to reverse the Citizens United Supreme Court decision of 2010. A change will most likely require an amendment to the Constitution.

The Tacoma City Council members spoke convincingly on their reasons for supporting or opposing

ETHICS: Boe stories bloated with false innuendo

Re: “Firm’s ties to Boe stronger than known” (TNT, 6-10).

Opening up the paper this morning I am surprised to see another headline with David Boe’s name, another story suggesting dishonesty. I am frankly bewildered.

As a friend of Boe’s for the past 17 years, I know him to be a person who speaks his mind and without mincing words. If he says the new Cheney Stadium plan looks like an office park with a ballfield attached to it, then that is exactly what he thinks. He is also an honest man with strong opinions and a strong sense of
