WASHAM: Recall signatures still needed

The Recall Dale Washam Committee made history Thursday when we turned in 65,500 signatures. This is the exact number of signatures we need if they were all valid. However, in any signature- gathering event, the validity rate is typically 75 to 85 percent. As a result, we still need at least 10,000 additional signatures to ensure we have enough valid signatures to be certified.

If anyone needs petition, I have an order form on my website, www.recalldalewasham.com. Returning it requires one 44-cent stamp. If you want to sign the petition, our signature gathers are covering the Puyallup and Spanaway

WASHAM: Commenters’ anti-Farris vitriol is misdirected

Every time a new story appears regarding the Dale Washam recall effort, without fail a couple of folks jump to The News Tribune’s website in order to spew their vitriol of unsubstantiated claims and hate towards Robin Farris, who organized the recall.

They fail, again and again, to recognize that the claims against Washam were brought forward based on outside, unbiased investigations and were found to have merit by the state Supreme Court.

They try, again and again, to make this recall about Farris. This action has nothing to do with her and everything to do with Washam. No person

WASHAM: County voters should sign recall petition

Re: “Washam loses Web privileges” (TNT, 4-30).

Pierce County Assessor-Treasurer Dale Washam apparently believes that his actions are above the laws and regulations that are laid down for the rest of us.

His refusal to turn over requested records before he filters them, as well as his refusal to stop using the official website for his own personal opinions, shows just that, as does his well-documented treatment of respected county employees.

The employees who have sought recompense in the courts are definitely entitled to their rewards. However, I wonder who among you who have

WASHAM: Recall leader gets to play by different rules

What is that odor lingering in the air? Sort of like rotten eggs? Oh, I get it. It is coming from The News Tribune (4-29) and the leader of the Dale Washam recall effort, Robin Farris.

Isn’t it nice that she does not have to play by the same rules Washam is held to? She does not have to pay her lawyers, and her fine of $500 was suspended by the state Public Disclosure Commission and she only has to pay half of it.

The charges of violating regulations governing the reporting of campaign contributions by initially placing

WASHAM: Tax dollars are being wasted

Just out of curiosity, how much of my tax dollars has gone toward Dale Washam’s frivolity?

He hasn’t earned his salary, because he’s been too busy with his own agendas. He’s run up idiotic investigative costs in a Don Quixote quest. He’s all but destroyed the assessor-treasurer’s office and function. He’s the subject of multiple lawsuits brought against the county through his temper tantrum demotions and firings. Now we’re expected to pay his attorney fees, plus he wants to be reimbursed for any other fees he’s accrued?

No wonder he never got elected until the convoluted ranked-choice-voting system election. I

WASHAM: Recall effort should be humming

Re: “New, 4th report knocks Washam” (TNT, 4-24).

Yikes. This is the gift that keeps on giving, if one is a sadist.

I’m sure there are some folks in Pierce County who still think Dale Washam is doing great work regardless of four independent investigations, including one by the feds, that point out a nasty pattern that can’t be overlooked.

Any good that may have come out of Washam’s election win has long ago been lost in the misdeeds and lies. If there has been any doubt about whether one should sign a recall petition, they should

RECALL: Why can’t petitions be online?

In reading the recent article about the Dale Washam recall, I was struck by the fact the state and county are still requiring paper petitions. It seems with so much now being done online that the signature process could be done online. It would also allow a faster verifictation of voter registration.

If this seems too much, too soon, the IRS is doing it for e-filing and refunds, so the method is out there, it just needs the powers that be to implement it.

TAXES: Put burden of proof on assessors

Re: “Property tax puzzle” (TNT, 2-14).

Reported higher tax rates make it imperative that the assessor get property values right. The law requires valuation at “100 percent of true and fair market value”- not “close enough for government work.”

Current law says the assessor’s value is presumed correct but WAC 458-14-046 (4a) states that a taxpayer overcomes the presumption by showing the assessor’s method or approach is “flawed or invalid.” Then the “presumption” does not apply.

Property inspections are necessary to update the data fed into the computerized appraisal system, but neither skipped physical inspections from 2001-08 under Ken Madsen,
