MARRIAGE: Cartoon reflects anti-Mormon bigotry

A cartoon that appeared in The News Tribune (Cartoonists’ sketchpad, 1-4) portrays two people snowmobiling in the mountains with the caption, “Utah believes in traditional marriage . . . ask any of my four wives.” This cartoon shows bigotry and ignorance at its best.

A bigot is defined as “someone who as a result of their prejudices or views sees other people with contempt or intolerance on the basis of a person’s opinion, ethnicity or religion.” The cartoon uses a broad brush to define all people in Utah as supporting polygamy and suggests that the dominant religion in Utah supports

ROMNEY: Church’s ads aren’t an endorsement

Re: “Pro-Mormon ads have political aim” (letter, 2-23).

This letter writer is very much misinformed. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon), I can assure readers that our church does not fund any political candidate for office, nor does our leadership endorse any candidate, period.

And yes, we are great and normal people.
