CLIMATE: TNT shouldn’t pander to ignorance

Re: “Where’s news that doesn’t fit agenda?” (letter, 9-11).

The online version of the letter that cited the “60 percent increase” in the Arctic ice pack came with a link – to Mail Online, the online version of the British tabloid The Daily Mail. Did nobody at The News Tribune look up the credibility of this source?

A simple Google search for the phrase “polar ice increase” reveals several links to more scientifically reliable sources that more accurately explain why an increase in polar ice is not incompatible with long-term global warming trends.

CLIMATE: Data showing climate change is real

A recent letter to the editor (TNT, 9-11) suggested that a 60 percent increase in the Arctic ice pack from August 2013 to August 2012 should have been published by The News Tribune as climate news – presumably to offer evidence against global warming or climate change. The author implies that the TNT has a liberal agenda.

Perhaps, but that doesn’t change facts surrounding climate change. Peer-reviewed data show that climate change is real, and a vast majority of scientists accept the overwhelming evidence
