Is it just me or does it seem like we have one U.S. senator who reflects the views of her constituents and another who bought a Senate seat and consistently votes for business interests?
Patty Murray is in the news again, fighting for women’s reproductive rights and veterans care. She produced a bipartisan budget bill with Republican Paul Ryan.
Republican-masquerading as-a-Democratic Maria Cantwell, on the other hand, has made a name for herself as one who bucks the party line, which in itself isn’t a bad thing. The problem is that when she votes her conscience there are times when she really blows it.
Her vote along with the Republican majority allowed cloture, ending any attempt to filibuster the nomination of Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Another other really important vote against her constituents was her vote giving George W. Bush the authority to pursue a war using faulty intelligence and thereby leading to the deaths of thousands of American men and women as well as untold multitudes of innocent Iraqis. We can easily see how those two votes worked out for the country.
Cantwell deserves to shoulder some blame and be called upon to account for these two horrendous votes.
