HOBBY LOBBY: Decision is a step toward fascism

The Hobby Lobby court ruling which allows closely held (family? held) corporations to not pay for certain kinds of birth control is one more step toward fascism – which I define as corporations/businesses ruling our government.

Employees who do not hold similar religious beliefs should not be denied certain kinds of contraception because it is against the corporate founder’s religious beliefs.

The Hobby Lobby’s ruling is a step back of at least 50 years. Citizens United was a step back to the late 1800s when the rich really did hold all the power. Two of our forefathers, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson, were very suspicious of corporations, namely the British and Dutch East Indies Companies, which were just starting to become powerful at the time. Theodore Roosevelt, a Republican president, pushed for legislation which made corporations more responsible to the public.

If one thinks your vote doesn’t matter, think again. Presidents nominate, and the Senate confirms, Supreme Court justices. Hopefully, the next approved Supreme Court justice will help to curb the religious right, and now some corporations, which seek to impose their religious beliefs on all our citizens.

Your vote can make a difference in whoever the next court’s member is. Please vote; it is the one power you do have as a citizen to rein in this next step toward fascism.
