TNT: Distraught mother’s grief was exploited

As a local mental health professional, I was taken aback at the image associated with the story of the 2-year-old killed by her father. To show a mother in the raw moment of likely the worst moment of her life leads me to only one conclusion: When tragedy happens to me or my family, apparently I will need to concern myself with the local press at the same precise moment I am in the depth of my pain.

Clearly this photo was taken and published in an attempt to take advantage of a vulnerable situation in order to grab attention from readers. It worked. It was not worth it. It taught your readers about who you are, and where your bottom line lies.

You owe the woman in the photograph and her loved ones an apology – if not for legal reasons, or for professional ethics reasons, then for human decency reasons.
