OBAMA: Some suggestions for presidential visits

The president recently visited Seattle primarily for fundraisers and rallies. SeaTac flights were interrupted. Freeways closed in all directions. Our traffic became a nightmare when it is normally only a bad dream. The monorail was interrupted.

Of course, the president is welcome to join us any time, but while reasonable security is required, we all realize that the Secret Service cannot fully protect him from an industrious kook or group wanting to do harm. So here are some suggestions:

• Land and park Air Force One at the secure Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

• Any of our military bases would be honored to host a presidential visit and provide comfortable and secure quarters (he is their boss).

• Experience our frustration by enduring our traffic rather than making it worse by his appearance.

• Perhaps briefly make believe that he’s just like the rest of us in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area who avoid troubling others for our own gain.
