For the first time, I find myself in complete agreement with Charles Krauthammer’s opinion (column, 10-18), that the current usage associated with the term “Redskins” has changed and is no longer an appropriate nickname for an NFL football team.
But the real surprise was that Krauthammer avoided any comment on, or reference to, the apparent GOP debacle over the last couple of weeks. I’m surprised because he invariably finds some silver lining in everything, good or bad, Republicans do or say.
Some of the things he says in his columns I would tend to agree with if it were not for the fact that every opinion he offers blames the Democrats for everything and praises the Republicans for their valiant efforts. Surely the Democrats are not always wrong, no more so than the Republicans are always right.
It seems to me a more balanced position, with some good and bad on both sides, would be more appropriate. But things must have been so bad for the Republican image over the government shutdown and potential credit default that even Krauthammer couldn’t put a positive spin on it.
