Sen. Maria Cantwell closed her Senate offices in a show of solidarity with the president in closing down our national parks and monuments and discontinuing earned benefits and allowances for our veterans. (We know the costs of the various closings were greater than keeping them open.)
The real reason for the closures was to inflict pain on those affected and to blame the Republicans, in order to gain some political advantage.
Cantwell makes two serious mistakes: She concedes her office is nonessential and she abdicates her sworn responsibilities to her constituents and to our nation.
All Washington voters should now remember that our veterans and their families are far more important to our security and freedoms than Cantwell. We need a representative who cares more for our veterans than a political party.
