SHUTDOWN: Take back the House of Representatives

Republicans are willing to sacrifice all government programs and services to push their minority agenda for wealthy private and business interests. Republicans, the Party of “No,” apparently can’t even agree upon issues compelling them to disrupt American government and life.

The government shutdown is costing Americans $300 million per day, but the Republicans don’t care. They seem hell bent on cutting earned benefits for seniors; preventing legislated health care changes; cutting back services for disadvantaged families; dismantling health, food safety and environmental protection programs, while protecting Wall Street and financial interests.

Republicans are depriving Americans of their livelihoods, financial security and social support systems. Government employees, contractors, businesses, the elderly, destitute families, children and even grieving fallen service member families are all victims of the GOP’s self-serving agenda.

It is baffling that House Speaker John Boehner and a small fringe group of Republicans can disrupt the entire legislative process in the House of Representatives, frustrate the federal budget process and thereby sabotage the entire United States government. In any other country these people would be called political terrorists.

Their bold-faced lies about who is responsible for the shutdown are appalling. It is reminiscent of the big lies told by the Nazis during World War II.

It is time for the other elected representatives to take back the House to serve the American people. Boehner and the tea party fanatics should exit stage right in disgrace and crawl back into the dark places from which they came.
