SHUTDOWN: Tea partiers need a civics lesson

The congressional Republicans are digging in and have forced another shutdown of the federal government because they want the Affordable Care Act to go away.

Anyone with even a rudimentary understanding of our democratic process should be able to see that this is going nowhere fast. No law, including the Affordable Care Act, can be repealed in this manner.

The tea party people need to grasp the concept that they must allow the federal government to provide the services that the taxpayers have paid for; that accomplished, they need to introduce legislation in the manner provided for in our Constitution and let everyone weigh in on the matter.

In case they haven’t noticed, that’s the way it’s been done since 1789. Maybe during the next congressional recess, they can sit in on a civics class at the school of their choice in their districts.
