The Karshner Museum is almost gone. The Puyallup School District will gut the Karshner, one of only about three schools owned in the U.S. for a “cultural” center.

The Karshner has been a great teaching tool for grades K-5 for generations. Gone are the 62 educational kits sent to the classrooms to enhance study, the elephants foot, the old west room, the old classroom, the birds and animals.

The kids loved this place. In 2011/12, more than 400 classes visited the museum. PSD then spent thousands in new exhibit cases, only to scrap them for this new idea. Hundreds attended the monthly open house hosted by the Friends of the Karshner, and also supported many evening events. How many dollars will be spent, then again scrapped. But it could still be saved.

I urge people to contact the school district and school board to voice support for the Karshner.

Save the Karshner and also vote for Karen Edward for school board, the only candidate to support the museum. Vote against future levy requests.
