SCHOOLS: Exercise caution in school zones

With another school year officially begun, it is important for drivers to be extra cautious in and around school zones. Many children and their parents walk to and from school, and there are also after-school activities where children are present.

Please be aware of reduced speed limit signs that are posted in school zones. Some signs indicate that the reduced speed limit is only for “when children are present.” Other signs specify a time range that the reduced speed limit takes effect. Regardless of what the sign says, please drive safely through school zones.

We’ll never know how many potential accidents were avoided by either cautious drivers or cautious pedestrians, but the accidents that do unfortunately occur could have been easily avoided in nearly every case. Vigilance while driving can keep drivers and our community’s kids safe.
