TACOMA: Please stop stealing family’s home-grown produce

I have a curbside garden. Over the years, I’ve shared with my neighbors. I don’t mind when kids on bikes take a plum or a few strawberries. It’s part of our pleasure in our garden.A gleaner friend cleans my trees of leftover fruit and takes it to the food bank.

But in recent weeks, we have been repeatedly raided. An adult male on a white bike comes prepared with a bag and steals a full sack of home-grown organic fruit from our curbside garden. When I or my kids shout at him, he quickly pedals away.

He knows he is stealing. He has stripped our apple tree of the low-growing, unripe fruit and torn off fruit buds for next year in the process. He stole a full section of our strawberry beds, unripe fruit and all, leaving the plants stripped.

I wish he would think of the hours our kids spent weeding and watering and thinning, only to have their harvest stolen by him.
