ELECTION: ‘Moms’ headline objectionable

I couldn’t believe that your paper ran an article (TNT, 7-23) about the “moms” running in the upcoming Puyallup School District election. What century is this newspaper in? I have never, for instance, seen an article about an election where the male contenders are called “dads,” so why call the women “moms”?

In its context it made it seem like being a mother made these women less than worthy to represent their districts. I felt offended, and I’m not one of the women running for election.

I think you should print a retraction and apology to these women and give them the respect they deserve for trying to better the school district by sharing their experiences and knowledge.
