Re: “Truth about global warming” (letter, 7-10).
For truth about world temperature, read the paper titled “Environmental Effects of Increased Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide” by Arthur B. Robinson, Noah E. Robinson and Willie Soon, published in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons in 2007.
It contains real truths about climate change:
• The 3,000-year average temperature is higher than the current temperature. During Medieval times the world temperature was more than 1 degree Celsius higher than it is right now. Yet human life continued. The world temperature is still below the 3,000-year average. In all likelihood the temperature could continue increasing.
• Burning hydrocarbons has no effect on the glacier shortening. Our current trend started around 1800. The shortening continues at the same rate now as before the automobile. The sixfold increase in hydrocarbon use has had no noticeable effect on world temperature.
• Sea level increase shows exactly the same trend as the glaciers.
• The number of severe tornadoes and hurricanes is not increasing.
Evidence indicates instituting Draconian measures to change “carbon footprints” won’t produce significant changes in Earth’s temperature, but these measures will most certainly harm our quality of life.
The world was much warmer during the past 3,000 years without catastrophic effects. Remember the basic biology principle of homeostasis: the ability to maintain constant environment in response to environmental change.
Another fact: The Earth absorbs more energy from the sun in one hour than man can produce in an entire year.
