FIREWORKS: Change day off to July 5 to recover from July 4

Fireworks are illegal in the City of Tacoma? You would never guess that with all the noise around town on July 4.

I’m not sure what the point was in banning fireworks. Anyone can drive out to the reservation and buy whatever they want, and the police don’t make any real effort at enforcing the law.

What’s really unfortunate is that July 5 is usually a work day for most people. I think it’s time to change that. Our Independence Day celebration is all about blowing things up after dark, so why not make the day after the legal holiday? I wouldn’t mind working till 5 or 6 pm July 4 and then having the 5th as a day to sleep in and recover from the celebration.

We’re never going to stop the use of fireworks by reckless people who don’t care that they are keeping the neighbors awake. This seems to me to be the most realistic way to deal with the nightmare that has become the Fourth of July.
