Re: “Krauthammer’s ‘Gotcha’ analysis of Obama” (letter, 6-23).

In criticizing columnist Charles Krauthammer (TNT, 6-14), the letter writer asks to be shown a quote in which President Obama promised 100 percent safety and 100 percent privacy.

While Obama didn’t say those words verbatim, in the 2008 presidential debates he said, “This administration, referring to the Bush administration, puts forth a false choice between the liberties we cherish and the security we provide.”

That statement certainly implies that we don’t need to sacrifice privacy to achieve security. Krauthammer is simply pointing out the inconsistencies in Obama’s comments. Obama was quick to criticize Bush, but he’s willing to go further than Bush on the very things he criticized him for.
