Re: “NHL fans, buckle up: Talk of Seattle team gaining speed” (John McGrath column, 6-17).

The Northwest is a professional sports area. We have the Seahawks, the Mariners and the Sounders. We had the Sonics since 1967 until Clay Bennett and the NBA maneuvered a move to Oklahoma City. They won and we lost.
The latest attempt to relocate a failing NBA team back to Seattle fell on deaf ears. Chris Hansen and his investment group put together an extremely solid financial package for the Sacramento Kings and a privately financed arena with no taxpayer money. What a shame for the sports fans of Seattle. Now he is talking about the NHL.

We have no winter professional sports in the Seattle area. There is an opportunity from a willing investor to inject millions of private capital to bring a professional sports franchise into this area. The NBA attempt failed. It would be creditable to look at the NHL. After all, who would have thought the NHL would be successful in San Jose, Los Angeles or Tampa Bay?

Why not the NHL in Seattle? It’s the fastest sport on ice. It would be an amazing experience to see the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadians and all the other incredible talent of the NHL.

All it takes is a private investor to make the deal and the vision of passionate sports fans. It will be a long time until the NBA comes back. Let’s see some professional hockey.
